Scouting Pays Off!

October 14th, 2009

For all of you people out there that like to see the bucks get commanded…  My name is Greg Sims, (Buckman for Buck Commander).  I am from Conway Arkansas and I love to bow hunt!!!

I met the Buck Commander crew last year in Kansas at Adam LaRoche’s ranch, (the E3).  We have a “gathering” every year at the E3 in November and get after those BIG Kansas whitetails!  A life time friend of mine, Bo Dottley,  is a camera man for BC and he introduced me to them and we hit it off immediately!  All of those guys are like me and they are out there for one thing and that’s to simply have a good time!

Meeting the BC crew also led me into another frenzy last year as you may already know…  I killed a GIANT 193 inch whitetail in Iowa with my bow last year and I did a commercial with the Smart Scouter game camera guys.  If you watch the Outdoor Channel then you have probably seen my ugly mug on this commercial talking about how the Smart Scouter assisted in this kill…what an AWESOME TOOL!!!

[caption id="attachment_111" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Greg's 193" Iowa Bow Buck -2008"]Greg's 193" Iowa Bow Buck[/caption]

This leads me into this year’s first hunt….

I had been back and forth to KS several times this year scouting for that MONSTER of my dreams.  I had several Smart Scouter cameras out and guess what…yep!  I found another giant…or 3!!!  The Smart Scouter cameras were sending me pictures of several different “shooters” so the day before season, me and my trusty camera man, Bo Dottley, headed to KS.

I had my new Athens Buck Commander Bow in tow and I was really anxious to get the first kill on video with it.  This bow is FAST and shoots like a well oiled rifle so I could not wait to fire it at any one of those GIANTS!!!

The weather, mainly the wind and rain, did not cooperate with my plan for the first 2-3 hunts so we kept waiting on the right conditions to hunt my 2 favorite GIANTS.  Finally, on September 22nd, the second afternoon, we had the right conditions/wind direction to hit the hot spot!  We got everything together and headed out.  When we got there, the alfalfa field had several deer in it already and we had to work extra hard getting into the stands…but we pulled it off.

The deer movement on this day was unbelievable.  We had at least 10 different bucks come by and no telling how many does and yearlings came by???  I told Bo that we had seen every deer in the county except the 2 big ones that we were after and that he better get ready…it was going to happen today!!!  I barely got this out of my mouth before hearing Bo say…”there’s your big, short G-2 buck”.  Then the game was ON!  We had several does directly under us and they had us “pegged”…they were looking directly at us!  I told Bo not to film the brute coming to us until he got to 50 yards for fear if he moved the game would be over due to the does looking directly at us.  When he got to 50 yards, I told Bo to get on him.  As he slowly moved, I drew back my bow and the does BLEW UP!  The buck stopped, turned broad-side and the rest is HISTORY!

1st Buck for Buck Commander 2009-2010!

I will tell you this, if you have a chance to meet ANY of the Buckmen or anyone associated with Buck Commander…DO SO!!!  We are all just GOOD OLE BOYS HAVIN’ TOO MUCH FUN!!!

KILLINGLY,
Greg Sims

Buckarama!!!

August 5th, 2009

The Atlanta Buckarama was a huge success for Buck Commander. We rolled in, well, the Hog flew, and got to shaking hands with the great folks from Ga. It was so neat to hear all the places you boys hunt.  I got picked up at the airport by my ole buddy Carter Smith in the “Mobile Command Post” and we took off to the show.  Our production crew was there and we started filming our first TV show coming next fall to a network near you.

We went Sat. to pick up Chipper over in the “trailer park”.  If that offends “trailer-living” folks, SAVE IT, I was born and raised in one, been there, done it.  Needless to say, if you just won a MLB batting title, you got a few coins in your pocket and your pad ain’t too shabby.  We showed up to see a line like ain’t seen since we used to have fish-frys down at Mom and Dads house.  Chipper signed as long as he could and then had to get back to his other gig that was moved up because it was on national TV.  I tried to sit in after he left and well, Jordan Summitt (BC camera guy), was neck and neck with me on popularity.  GA. loves them some “Tommy Topper”!!

And low and behold, Adam LaRoche gets traded to the Braves so he comes to town as well.  It was like an old-fashion Buckmen gathering.  We all piled up in the RV, headed to Chippers and played some poker.  I successfully knocked out Adam and Chipper only to get beat out by a lowly cameraman.  OUCH!  I was the best of the losers that night.

I cannot say enough of how impressed I was with the event.  The Buckarama was buzzing with many cool outdoor products and lots of folks showed up.  There all sorts of booths and things for people to enjoy.  I enjoyed walking around and talking to vendors who had their booths set up on a great weekend.  If you live in that area I want to encourage you to go next year.  We will certainly be back.  See ya next year.

Mobile Command Post

June 30th, 2009
Hello fans and followers of Buck Commander. My name is Carter Smith and I am
proud to say that Buck Commander has hired me to serve as National Sales
Manager.
BC\'d up

If you have been to any of the outdoors hunting shows or concerts
Buck Commander has been associated with, you have probably seen me. As Buck Commander
has grown over these past few years, so too has the need to keep pace with the
managing and growth of sales demands. Well, Chipper and I have known each other for the past 15 years. We have been through A LOT together, and he has enough on me for some serious blackmail and I have plenty on him as well. So we have agreed that the best thing for us to do is keep each other happy (most of the time anyway).
As Willie Robertson aka “Boss Hog”, CEO and as he likes to put it, “the brains of the operation” (but most notibly referred to as the son of the Duck Commander himself, Mr. Phil Robertson) was molding and shaping this culmination of ruthless hunters/professional athletes, he knew he could put together a unique creation unlike anything the hunting industry has ever seen. When all the smoke cleared, Buck Commander was formed : Willie Robertson, Chipper Jones, Adam LaRoche, Matt Duff, Ryan Langerhans and Tombo Martin. A close knit group that would proudly and deservedly become known as “The Buckmen”
The Buckmen have all reached success in their profession, and have now reached success in their passion as well, HUNTING!! Trust me, when you watch the Buck Commander DVDs it won’t take you long to see that there style and approach to hunting is just like yours and your buddies, “Good ‘ol boys havin’ too much fun!”

So I guess that is a prelude as to how I became involved with Buck Commander, and the reason I am proud to be able to call these guys my true friends…..and going hunting with ‘em ain’t too bad of a deal either ; )

While at ATA this past January with Chipper, I had a good, long talk with Matt Duff about
the direction he would like to see the company move towards. As we continued
to talk I became more and more enthralled at what Duff was saying. Finally,
I just said, “I’m your man!” When Duff
returned to Louisiana he had a talk with “Boss Hog” about the possibility of hiring me to handle a portion of the sales side of the company. I will forever be indebted to Duff for having that talk with Willie. So Willie called me, and invited me and my family to West Monroe, Louisiana for a weekend. We had a blast, our wife and our kids hit it off with Willie and his awesome family. We got to know one another really well over that short time we spent together. At the end of the weekend Willie asked me if I would like to take on the position as National Sales Manager ( I guess I passed the very informal interview process). He said he wanted someone that
knew all the guys, and someone they could trust. Well, that was that, and here I am now.
I am currently on a summer “tour,” traveling across much of the country, hitting every trade show I can. Just in case you haven’t seen the “Buck Commander Mobile Command Post” that I travel in, I have attached some pictures for your entertainment. The RV we pimped out!A closer look at the BC RV
But if you know Buck Commander, you know we don’t do things the same way others do. So, what did we do with that RV? We sent it straight to Joe Warner (Tokyo Joe) at Camo Clad in Illinois to have it wrapped with our logos, pics of the Buckmen and Duckmen and of course, plenty of camo. The job Joe and his guys did was phenomenal!! Bold and “in your face,” just the way we like it. So it was time for me to hit the road… I went to Columbia, SC for the Palmetto Sportsman Show, Sticks Country Music Festival, which we helped sponsor, in Auburn, AL,Rome River Jam in Rome, GA where our good friend and BC supporter, Luke Bryan was the headliner, then to BamaJam in Enterprise, AL, to CMAs in Nashville and winding down in Jacksonville, FL at The Big Buck Expo.Luke Hanging out at the BC boothWe love meeting you fine Americans along the way. The next few months we have planned are listed below. Come out and see us, say hello, hang out and of course don’t forget to grab our latest DVD, Buck Commander II BALLISTIC!! showing a variety of hunts from several different areas of the country, but beyond that, it shows you the true side of The Buckmen, a core group of truly passionate hunters doing what they love to do.
You will soon notice that The Buckmen and their camps are just like you and your camp, “Good ‘ol boys having too much fun!!!!” You will not be disappointed. We specialize in unpredictability!!!
We are also really excited about our mini show on ESPN 2 coming out on July 5th. You want entertainment? This is what you are looking for!
Again, don’t forget to take a look at the schedule below to see when Buck Commander is coming to an area near you!
We look forward to meeting you, and as always, we really appreciate your support.

DVD is done, traveling the good ole USA

June 23rd, 2009

Okay, I said i would tell you about the “snug” baseball suit.  During spring training for MLB, I went down to sunny Orlando and filmed the some “mini” shows for ESPN.  Matt, Adam, Chipper, and I did interviews and I wore the Buck Commander uniform in all the shots.  Why? Who knows.  I just thought if my partners get to wear uniforms all the time, I should be able to as well.  Now, I prefer the 80’s style of tight fitting uni’s.  Check out the show on ESPN 2 JULY 5 and it will run for the rest of year.  Also don’t forget JULY 4 Duck Commander is on Outdoor Channel.

The DVD is done and on sale.  All Fun, check it out and let us know what you think.  I have been on a little road tour if you will, just completing an Atl, Nashville, Minneapolis, and Denver trip.  Got some good stuff done, met some great people, rode/slept in the newly wrapped Mobile Command Post RV, met with Federal Ammo and toured the plant, hit in batting practice, won a golf tournament, made my record setting JumboTron appearance in Atl, and took 2 pictures with women who swore I was Zac Brown (chicken-fried guy), I am much better looking than he is, HA.

The best part of what I do as my job is getting out and hanging with folks who love hunting.  I promise to blog more and let all you guys know all the goings on for the Buck Commander crew.  Til next time….

Willie is checking in!!!

April 20th, 2009

What is up boys!  Well i have been on the road selling, promoting, filming, and a little singing.  Every since the SHOT show in Orlando it has been busy around the Duck and Buck Commander companies.  We had great hunting seasons last fall and winter.  A great duck year and the filming of our first TV show that will air on Outdoor this July call The Duck Commander.  Dad was not always happy with all the extra crew of filmers but we made it and I think you will get a kick out of it.

And as always many whitetails hit the ground courtesy of your friendly Buck Commander squad.  I got my very first bow kill, Chipper got his first “Big” bow kill, Luke Bryan got his first, Adam killed everything.  Just an old fashion “Bush-whacking”.  Can’t wait til you boys see it and let me know what you think.  Now, as far as my singing goes, well lets just say i “broke out” on the DVD.  I just got home from the Sticks Country Music fair in Alabama.  They let me on stage and the Boss Hogg was crooning out “Oh, I’m the Buck Commander”  It was a riot.  I will say this, there are a lot of Alabama boys (and gals) that like to hunt and fish.  I have to tell you the highlite was when the cops stopped an under aged girl for (guess what) DIPPING!  Yes sir, she, yes I said SHE had a dip in.  Gotta love Alabama.

Well, we are having fun out on the road shaking hands with the folks.  Love talking Ducks and Deer with ya’ll.  Next time I am going to tell you about the filming in Spring Training with my Buck Commander baseball suit.

We will talk later,

Willie Robertson ”the boss hogg”

EDITING SEASON!!!!!!

March 18th, 2009

Hey guys,

We are in progress editing the new BC2 DVD! We have been working on it for about a 3 months now and it’s looking great! We plan on having available for purchase by early summer!  Don’t forget to check out the preview on the homepage of BC.com or YouTube.com!

Buck Commander 2: \”Ballistic\” Trailer 1

Editing season is just as hard as filming season for us here. Now all the things that we filmed in the fall have to be put together to tell the story of our season. (Pretty much we have to take a 90+ day season and sum it all up in 60-70 minutes.) Thank goodness for bonus footage right? haha.

And that’s tough to do…because we don’t want to just show you hunts…then we’d be like every other hunting DVD out there! We love to show the off the wall scenes on the DVD…(horse on a porch, spotter cat, hog commander) and we hope that you feel like it’s a little like your huntin’ camp. Buck Commander is just “good ole’ boys havin’ too much fun!” and it will always be that way. We want you to feel like you are one of the boys here when you watch our DVD’s.

So if you haven’t experienced the Buck Commander yet, get ya’ a DVD and hang on for the ride because it’s a fun one! We are looking forward to this year’s DVD and I can promise you that it’s gonna’ knock your socks off!

The Rut Has Begun…2

November 5th, 2008

Well guys Buck Commander 2 is in the works as we speak.  We have been traveling all over the US in search of the elusive whitetail deer!  We have been to Missouri, Texas, Illinois, Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Montana and we have got some great footage already.  The boys are working hard to get on a buck in the mid-west right now and hopefully we can score on something.

Next week we are headed to Kansas for a group hunt at LaRoche’s ranch.  We are all bow hunting, and if we have the same luck Langerhans had last year then it should be a good week!

In other news,  we have some Buck Commander products headed to a store near you and we will announce those later in the year!  For now, don’t forget to check out all the new Buck Commander shirts in our online store!

Hope all is well with everyone!  The rut is upon us and maybe a big ole’ sad-daddy will make that mistake chasing girls near you!  Hope ya’ll kill ya’ one!
