Sad Ending to a Long Season…

February 12th, 2010

Hey Everybody,

Hope ya’ll had a great season!  Buck Commander had an AWESOME season and we are now editing Buck Commander 3: “Welcome to the Bigs”!!!

Just to give you a summary of our season we have filmed 25+ kills in 6 states this year!  We killed 2 bucks over 180″, and 10 bucks scoring over 150″+!!!  We aren’t just about the score of the racks, we also killed a few hundred bowls worth of doe chili as well! haha.  Luke Bryan brought along country sensation Jason Aldean to do a little deer hunting in between shows! We also have a Buck Commandress this year, Mrs. Sharon Jones (Chipper’s wife)!  Like always we captured some insanely funny moments that you’ll only see on a Buck Commander DVD!  So get ready for “The Bigs”!  (Coming in late May/June 2010)

We also have a TV show in the works to air this summer (July 2010) on the Outdoor Channel!  The show will be called “Buck Commander: Protected by Under Armour”.  We will announce our other commercial partners later.  Watch the trailer here!

A lot of great things are happening fast for us and we want to thank each one of you for supporting us along the way!

The sad part of blog comes next.  If you have followed the BC series then you may remember the buck that Chipper missed on Buck Commander 2… We called him the Chaparosa buck and we have not seen him since the day that Chipper missed him, until now….Chipper’s foreman Anthony called with some news that they had found Chaparosa’s skull.  He died sometime this season without ever being seen…. We aren’t quite sure what killed him and in that part of the country a number of things could have happened.  But we do have a picture for you guys to see!  We finally got him, may not be the way we wanted to but here is the Chaparosa buck from Buck Commander 2.

Keep checking back for updates on Buck Commander!  We have so many things going on, new products coming out and much much more!

Oh and be sure to catch us at the National race in Daytona this Saturday Feb. 13th on ESPN!  We teamed up with Bad Boy Buggies and Under Armour to sponsor the #40 Nascar with Mike Bliss as the driver! Pretty cool huh?!? There is a HUGE Buck Commander logo on the hood!

God Bless and have a great spring,

2009 E3 Group Hunt in KS/MO

December 8th, 2009
Well, we just got finished with our first BC group hunt of the year and I think all the boys will tell you it was a success!!!

It all started with my wife hosting a surprise 30th birthday for me where she flew in all my closest friends along with the BC crew.  My wife, brother and Willie took my old 1984 Surburban (and with a lot of help from Skyjacker) they turned it into a NEW truck!  It was the best present I could ever get!  The party was unforgettable!  Now it was time for the BC crew to hunt for the next week!

Jason Aldean and Kevin Weldon were kind enough to kick off our E3 hunt with a concert the first evening.  Be sure and check out the footage of Willie in front of 8,000 screaming fans introuducing Aldean….pretty funny!

Chip came to hunt a few days before the party and ended up stealing the show with a quick 165″ buck! It didn’t come easy, he spent 8 hours in the tree before he saw the first deer.  He rode the hole and put a GIANT on the ground! Not many days after that, Chip killed another GIANT 8 point that we’d been after for a while.  Not even 2 days into the hunt and Chip was leading the pack!

Our newest Buckman, Tom Martin also smoked a HUGE 8 pointer for his biggest bow kill to date, and his first kill with the BC bow!

I had a few encounters myself that week with a 180″ buck I call “Big Boy” that I was determined to hunt after receiving several trail cam pics of him before season.

Other than the BC boys loosing a much talked about volleyball game to a local girls team, everything was GREAT!

I wish I could tell you how many people were in camp that week….I”m guessing around 30,  we had tons of people in and out all week!  Oh well, the more the better!  The bucks were just a bonus!  We are now getting ready for our group hunt in Brady in about 2 weeks!  Until then, good luck and remember, it’s NOVEMBER so get in the woods!

ADAM

PS.  Oh yeah,  that buck I call “Big Boy”….he’s dead!  I killed him on the way to my stand the week after the group hunt!  We had to put a stalk on him and the first kill of 2009 for myself is in the books! Not a lot of time for details,  I’m headed to the stand so here are some pics!

The Life of a BC Cameraman

November 17th, 2009

Hey guys,

Let me introduce myself.  My name is Jordan Summitt and I am the Video Production Manager for Buck Commander.  I am also Chipper’s requested cameraman (you’ll need to know this later for the story I’m about to tell you.)

I enjoy filming all of the Buckmen but when baseball season ends,  my job is to be in the tree with Chipper whenever and wherever he decides to go!  Well baseball season had just ended and I had just heard from Chip that we would be headed down to his ranch soon but no word on when.  So I planned a trip up to Nebraska with Duff to a new place he just got there…

I drove up to Nebraska via Little Rock, AR where I met the newest member of the Buck Commander Production team, Hunter Jobes,  who also plays baseball for Duff in San Angelo, Texas.  Hunter had used a camera a few times but really wanted to learn more.  So we thought this trip would be a good one for him to “learn the ropes” of filming for BC.  So the journey began….

Not 8 hours down the road I get a call from my wife that I had forgot my scent tote (which had every bit of my Under Armour clothing in it)…..I know what you are thinking,  how can you forget your hunting clothes Jordan?!?! It still makes me sick to this day thinking about it.  Duff said I could wear some of his gear so I pushed on forward to Nebraska!

15 hours later we arrived in Nebraska to be greeted by Duff.  We got up the next morning,  did some scouting,  hung some sets and planned for the next morning hunt!  We hunted that next morning and didn’t see a single buck thanks to Farmer Joe who decided it was the perfect time to cut his alfalfa field.  As soon as we got off the stand,  I got a call from Chip explaining that he decided to move our trip to  Texas up to this week!!!  And in order for me to get there on time I had to leave the following morning,  so my Nebraska trip got cut a little short with Duff.  Thank goodness we brought Hunter Jobes to help with the filming!   So I packed what gear I had and told my wife to send me some clothes to Chippers ranch because I knew that his stuff wouldn’t fit. haha!  I left Duff and Hunter the next morning and headed to Carrizo Springs, TX to hunt with Chip for the next few days.

I drove another 13 hours to meet up with Chipper….We had a few bucks that we had our eyes on from last year.  Our main target….Chaparosa (for those of you who don’t remember,  Chaparosa was a 170+ buck that Chipper missed on BC2 DVD).  We were hoping to see him this year and get another shot at him to finish the story of the chase of this elusive whitetail.  After talking to some of the ranch hands and doing some scouting of our own, we were afraid that this buck may have died of old age or had changed locations on us.  We decided to wait and hunt him when we got the right wind so that left open a few other spots to hunt on the ranch.  We went out the first morning to a spot Chip calls the Triple S,  (Super Secret Spot). It’s a great spot where the deer funnel from bedding to feed every day.  We hunted that stand the first morning until about 9 o’clock….we literally were packing up our gear and getting down when Chip spotted a BIG 9 come out of the brush.  It took some shuffling but we were able to get a shot on him and Chip killed his first buck of 2009-2010 season!

Later that night we got a call from Duff with news of a 160″ Nebraska buck he put down thanks to the Buck Commander bow!  The first question that comes to mind when you hear news like this in Buck Commander is “how was the footage?”.  Duff said Hunter did a great job and it looked great!  Once again, THANK GOODNESS WE BROUGHT HUNTER! This was Duff’s biggest buck with a bow and his first buck in Nebraska!  So congrats to Duff! And congrats to Hunter for his first kill on camera!

We had a great time that week at the ranch, killed a few cull bucks and got the stands and setups ready for our group hunt in December.  Between forgetting my Under Armour and driving about 40+ hours total I still had a great time, and  I would do it all over again!

Here are some pics of the guy’s bucks from this week and stay tuned for the blog on our group hunt at LaRoche’s,  we had a great week with 3 big midwest bucks down on the ground!

Startin’ Strong!

October 16th, 2009

I just dropped Pete Angle of Under Armour off at the Oklahoma City Airport yesterday after a great week of bow hunting and good times in Northwestern Oklahoma.  Jordy and I left a few days before opening day of the Oklahoma archery season to meet up with my good friend and host of Buckventures Outdoor TV show, Jeff Danker to do some scouting at his ranch he calls the River Mesa.  We spent several days scouting and watching deer from atop a mesa that overlooked some huge alfalfa fields so we could put a plan together for opening day.  We saw hundreds of deer each day and by the time Pete arrived, we had several nice, mature bucks located.  Danker and I went in mid-day and hung several “sets” in places we felt like we could get bow shots at some of the nice bucks we had pin-pointed, so all that was left now, was to get our gear ready and be in the stands an hour before daylight on opening morning!

Our first day of hunting was uneventful to a certain extent.  Although we saw a few bucks, the high winds and warm weather had the mature bucks layed up, but it was great to be back in the stand again after such a long spring and summer.  As night fell, so came with it a cold front and as Jordan & I got set up the next morning, we found ourselves in prime conditions with the temperature having dropped to 38 degrees and the winds almost non-existent.  Jordan prompted me once there was enough camera light to give an intro to the hunt and as I was talking to Jordan about our setup, I look across the river and see several nice bucks on the opposite bank getting ready to hopefully head in our direction.  A couple of small bucks ventured across first and right behind them was a beautiful looking 10pt.  As they worked closer I was able to see that the 10pt was a younger deer, probably a 3 year old, so I made a decision to pass on him.  No sooner than Jordan filmed the 10pt for a few mins, I see a big bodied, mature 9pt walking across the river on the same trail as the deer that had just been in bow range of us for the past 15 minutes.  As if the buck had “read the script”, he walked right towards us and got to within 30 yards.  Once Jordy whispered to me that he was on him with the camera, I drew back, stopped the 9pt and let one fly!  Immediately, I knew I had hit him a lil higher and back than I would have liked, but a lethal shot nonetheless!  Jordan and I both were fired up as it was our first “kill on camera” together, but just to make sure we didn’t try and recover the deer immediately and so we climbed down to go tell Jeff and Pete what we had done and see if they had any luck that morning.  Jeff and Pete didn’t get anything, so all attention turned to my encounter that morning and after we ate some lunch, Jeff, Jordy and I went out to see if we could recover my buck.  We didn’t find much blood and actually lost blood after 150 yards or so and couldn’t find him the rest of the afternoon.  The country up in Northwestern Oklahoma is pretty tough and it’s really difficult finding blood, so we had to wait and hope that the coyotes or buzzards would help us locate where the buck had expired.

A day went by with no luck and then on the second afternoon after I had shot, Mikey Miller (BC cameraman) spotted a large group of buzzards circling in the vicinity of where we had last found blood!  We decided we would hunt the next morning and then go try and locate my buck.  The next morning was uneventful for Jordy and myself, but Jeff and his cameraman Brandon Adams smacked an awesome 10pt so everybody celebrated and helped Jeff recover his buck.  After taking some pics with Jeff’s deer and watching footage of his kill back at camp, Jeff and Brandon along with Mikey went into town to check his buck in and Pete, Jordy and I went out in search of my buck.  As we got over to where I had last found blood the day I shot, we began looking where we had last seen the buzzards circling and less than 5 minutes of looking had gone by when Pete hollers to me that we found him!  I couldn’t believe it, the buck hadn’t was only about 50 yards from where we had last found blood the day I shot.  The carcass was pretty much gone and I’m sure was ample bounty for the coyotes and buzzards, but the  rack was still in pristine shape and I was one happy hunter!  Pete ended up heading back to Baltimore with a tag still in his pocket, but we all had a great time in and around camp and seeing Jeff and Brandon for the first time in quite awhile was great as well.  All in all it was an awesome opening week at Jeff’s place in Oklahoma! I can’t wait to get back someday soon and hunt the River Mesa.

Now I’ll be heading up even farther to the Northwest in Oklahoma to meet Chipper and Rochey at their new ranch.  I’ll scout a couple of days before they arrive and then I’m sure those boys after a full season of baseball are itching to get in a deer stand!  I’m looking forward to seeing them, and I’m confident that they both will get a couple of nice bucks next week!

Here are some pics from our week in NW Oklahoma!

Scouting Pays Off!

October 14th, 2009

For all of you people out there that like to see the bucks get commanded…  My name is Greg Sims, (Buckman for Buck Commander).  I am from Conway Arkansas and I love to bow hunt!!!

I met the Buck Commander crew last year in Kansas at Adam LaRoche’s ranch, (the E3).  We have a “gathering” every year at the E3 in November and get after those BIG Kansas whitetails!  A life time friend of mine, Bo Dottley,  is a camera man for BC and he introduced me to them and we hit it off immediately!  All of those guys are like me and they are out there for one thing and that’s to simply have a good time!

Meeting the BC crew also led me into another frenzy last year as you may already know…  I killed a GIANT 193 inch whitetail in Iowa with my bow last year and I did a commercial with the Smart Scouter game camera guys.  If you watch the Outdoor Channel then you have probably seen my ugly mug on this commercial talking about how the Smart Scouter assisted in this kill…what an AWESOME TOOL!!!

[caption id="attachment_111" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Greg's 193" Iowa Bow Buck -2008"]Greg's 193" Iowa Bow Buck[/caption]

This leads me into this year’s first hunt….

I had been back and forth to KS several times this year scouting for that MONSTER of my dreams.  I had several Smart Scouter cameras out and guess what…yep!  I found another giant…or 3!!!  The Smart Scouter cameras were sending me pictures of several different “shooters” so the day before season, me and my trusty camera man, Bo Dottley, headed to KS.

[caption id="attachment_112" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="My #1 Prospect for the 2009 season!"]Prospect #1[/caption]

I had my new Athens Buck Commander Bow in tow and I was really anxious to get the first kill on video with it.  This bow is FAST and shoots like a well oiled rifle so I could not wait to fire it at any one of those GIANTS!!!

The weather, mainly the wind and rain, did not cooperate with my plan for the first 2-3 hunts so we kept waiting on the right conditions to hunt my 2 favorite GIANTS.  Finally, on September 22nd, the second afternoon, we had the right conditions/wind direction to hit the hot spot!  We got everything together and headed out.  When we got there, the alfalfa field had several deer in it already and we had to work extra hard getting into the stands…but we pulled it off.

The deer movement on this day was unbelievable.  We had at least 10 different bucks come by and no telling how many does and yearlings came by???  I told Bo that we had seen every deer in the county except the 2 big ones that we were after and that he better get ready…it was going to happen today!!!  I barely got this out of my mouth before hearing Bo say…”there’s your big, short G-2 buck”.  Then the game was ON!  We had several does directly under us and they had us “pegged”…they were looking directly at us!  I told Bo not to film the brute coming to us until he got to 50 yards for fear if he moved the game would be over due to the does looking directly at us.  When he got to 50 yards, I told Bo to get on him.  As he slowly moved, I drew back my bow and the does BLEW UP!  The buck stopped, turned broad-side and the rest is HISTORY!

1st Buck for Buck Commander 2009-2010!

I will tell you this, if you have a chance to meet ANY of the Buckmen or anyone associated with Buck Commander…DO SO!!!  We are all just GOOD OLE BOYS HAVIN’ TOO MUCH FUN!!!

KILLINGLY,
Greg Sims

Buckarama!!!

August 5th, 2009

The Atlanta Buckarama was a huge success for Buck Commander. We rolled in, well, the Hog flew, and got to shaking hands with the great folks from Ga. It was so neat to hear all the places you boys hunt.  I got picked up at the airport by my ole buddy Carter Smith in the “Mobile Command Post” and we took off to the show.  Our production crew was there and we started filming our first TV show coming next fall to a network near you.

We went Sat. to pick up Chipper over in the “trailer park”.  If that offends “trailer-living” folks, SAVE IT, I was born and raised in one, been there, done it.  Needless to say, if you just won a MLB batting title, you got a few coins in your pocket and your pad ain’t too shabby.  We showed up to see a line like ain’t seen since we used to have fish-frys down at Mom and Dads house.  Chipper signed as long as he could and then had to get back to his other gig that was moved up because it was on national TV.  I tried to sit in after he left and well, Jordan Summitt (BC camera guy), was neck and neck with me on popularity.  GA. loves them some “Tommy Topper”!!

And low and behold, Adam LaRoche gets traded to the Braves so he comes to town as well.  It was like an old-fashion Buckmen gathering.  We all piled up in the RV, headed to Chippers and played some poker.  I successfully knocked out Adam and Chipper only to get beat out by a lowly cameraman.  OUCH!  I was the best of the losers that night.

I cannot say enough of how impressed I was with the event.  The Buckarama was buzzing with many cool outdoor products and lots of folks showed up.  There all sorts of booths and things for people to enjoy.  I enjoyed walking around and talking to vendors who had their booths set up on a great weekend.  If you live in that area I want to encourage you to go next year.  We will certainly be back.  See ya next year.

Mobile Command Post

June 30th, 2009
Hello fans and followers of Buck Commander. My name is Carter Smith and I am
proud to say that Buck Commander has hired me to serve as National Sales
Manager.
BC\'d up

If you have been to any of the outdoors hunting shows or concerts
Buck Commander has been associated with, you have probably seen me. As Buck Commander
has grown over these past few years, so too has the need to keep pace with the
managing and growth of sales demands. Well, Chipper and I have known each other for the past 15 years. We have been through A LOT together, and he has enough on me for some serious blackmail and I have plenty on him as well. So we have agreed that the best thing for us to do is keep each other happy (most of the time anyway).
As Willie Robertson aka “Boss Hog”, CEO and as he likes to put it, “the brains of the operation” (but most notibly referred to as the son of the Duck Commander himself, Mr. Phil Robertson) was molding and shaping this culmination of ruthless hunters/professional athletes, he knew he could put together a unique creation unlike anything the hunting industry has ever seen. When all the smoke cleared, Buck Commander was formed : Willie Robertson, Chipper Jones, Adam LaRoche, Matt Duff, Ryan Langerhans and Tombo Martin. A close knit group that would proudly and deservedly become known as “The Buckmen”
The Buckmen have all reached success in their profession, and have now reached success in their passion as well, HUNTING!! Trust me, when you watch the Buck Commander DVDs it won’t take you long to see that there style and approach to hunting is just like yours and your buddies, “Good ‘ol boys havin’ too much fun!”

So I guess that is a prelude as to how I became involved with Buck Commander, and the reason I am proud to be able to call these guys my true friends…..and going hunting with ‘em ain’t too bad of a deal either ; )

While at ATA this past January with Chipper, I had a good, long talk with Matt Duff about
the direction he would like to see the company move towards. As we continued
to talk I became more and more enthralled at what Duff was saying. Finally,
I just said, “I’m your man!” When Duff
returned to Louisiana he had a talk with “Boss Hog” about the possibility of hiring me to handle a portion of the sales side of the company. I will forever be indebted to Duff for having that talk with Willie. So Willie called me, and invited me and my family to West Monroe, Louisiana for a weekend. We had a blast, our wife and our kids hit it off with Willie and his awesome family. We got to know one another really well over that short time we spent together. At the end of the weekend Willie asked me if I would like to take on the position as National Sales Manager ( I guess I passed the very informal interview process). He said he wanted someone that
knew all the guys, and someone they could trust. Well, that was that, and here I am now.
I am currently on a summer “tour,” traveling across much of the country, hitting every trade show I can. Just in case you haven’t seen the “Buck Commander Mobile Command Post” that I travel in, I have attached some pictures for your entertainment. The RV we pimped out!A closer look at the BC RV
But if you know Buck Commander, you know we don’t do things the same way others do. So, what did we do with that RV? We sent it straight to Joe Warner (Tokyo Joe) at Camo Clad in Illinois to have it wrapped with our logos, pics of the Buckmen and Duckmen and of course, plenty of camo. The job Joe and his guys did was phenomenal!! Bold and “in your face,” just the way we like it. So it was time for me to hit the road… I went to Columbia, SC for the Palmetto Sportsman Show, Sticks Country Music Festival, which we helped sponsor, in Auburn, AL,Rome River Jam in Rome, GA where our good friend and BC supporter, Luke Bryan was the headliner, then to BamaJam in Enterprise, AL, to CMAs in Nashville and winding down in Jacksonville, FL at The Big Buck Expo.Luke Hanging out at the BC boothWe love meeting you fine Americans along the way. The next few months we have planned are listed below. Come out and see us, say hello, hang out and of course don’t forget to grab our latest DVD, Buck Commander II BALLISTIC!! showing a variety of hunts from several different areas of the country, but beyond that, it shows you the true side of The Buckmen, a core group of truly passionate hunters doing what they love to do.
You will soon notice that The Buckmen and their camps are just like you and your camp, “Good ‘ol boys having too much fun!!!!” You will not be disappointed. We specialize in unpredictability!!!
We are also really excited about our mini show on ESPN 2 coming out on July 5th. You want entertainment? This is what you are looking for!
Again, don’t forget to take a look at the schedule below to see when Buck Commander is coming to an area near you!
We look forward to meeting you, and as always, we really appreciate your support.
