Interview: Ryan Langerhans

Q:How long have you been hunting?
A: My dad took me on my first bird hunt when I was 6 years old... and then took me on my first deer hunt the next year, so this will be my 22nd year hunting.

Q:Who introduced you to deer hunting?
A: My dad is the one who introduced me to hunting... I was always trying to tag along anytime he went outdoors.

Q:What is your favorite state to hunt? Why?
A: My favorite state to hunt is my home state of Texas, just because of all the great memories I have from hunting in our great state. I also REALLY enjoy hunting Kansas now also.

Q:What is your most memorable deer hunt?
A: Probably a tie between the first deer I ever killed, when I was 9, and being with my dad when he killed his first buck with a bow, at the E3.

Q:How big was your biggest buck?
A: My biggest deer by far is the (freakin bruiser); I shot in Kansas last year... he was a 19pt. non-typical that scored 187 1/8 inches;. Gotta give my boy Rochey some love for putting me on that deer he knew where to set up.

Q:What's your "dream" buck (your ideal trophy)?
A: Without a doubt my dream deer is a 200 inch; typical. I would also like to kill a monster Mule Deer some day.

Q:Do you have any hunting supersitions?
A: I do not have any real superstitions, except that I do not like going to the tree stand without having my DC face paint on.

Q:Bow hunting or gun hunting? Why?
A: Bow hunting all the way.... Absolutely love the close encounters, and the excitement of trying to draw a buck in to point blank range.

Q:Tell us about your first deer hunt?
A: My first hunt was when I was 7, and basically involved me sitting with my dad and learning to be still and what to look for. we sat up in a tree, and late in the afternoon my dad ended up shooting a nice buck. He let me track the deer, and we soon found him piled up in a prickly pear patch...

Q:What is your favorite Movie?
A: Man, so tough... I’m a huge movie buff. Gotta go with Lonesome Dove, followed closely by Cool Hand Luke and Jeremiah Johnson.

Q:If Hollywood wanted to make a movie about your life, what famous actor would play you? Why?
A: I am not sure, but my wife says James Franco should, as long as she could play the lead lady....HMMMM.... what the heck is that supposed to mean???

Q:If you couldn't deer hunt, what else would you do during the off season?
A: Find something else to hunt... I would be absolutely miserable if I was not able to hunt during the offseason.
